I think very highly of Michael Lang. He is already a highly effective teacher and has a long, wonderful career ahead of him! Michael is a natural leader and a naturally kind person. These attributes have allowed him to create a well-organized and smooth running classroom while promoting student autonomy and responsibility. He communicates effectively and kindly with students and conveys his high expectations with respect. This standard represents a real strength of Michael's.
Michael holds himself to professional standards in every aspect of his work. He attends staff meeting and professional development trainings. He consistently conducts himself in a professional manner with staff students, and parents. He is a natural collaborateur. Meetings with my LA department colleagues have been made more lively by Michael's contributions.
Michael does a very good job planning units and lessons.... he is head and shoulders above other interns I have worked with in this regard. Michael readily adopts new instructional strategies and evaluates their effectiveness. He has such a keen mind that he is able to establish a learning objective and then work from there to design lessons that will fulfill that objective for all students.
Michael is a very quick learner. He easily absorbs new ideas and puts them into practice in this lessons and units. He is a deep thinker and a careful evaluator of ideas. He is willing to try new things and to learn from the experience. He is a master of technology and data collection. He is also highly effective at giving feedback to students.
Michael monitors student progress carefully. He modifies lessons to meet the individual needs of our students. He is light on his feet, able to adjust to changing circumstances even during the progress of a lesson. Our students are aware of his care and attention and respond with good work and commitment to learning. Especially during the unit on editorials, Michael made real-world application of ideas the centerpiece of the classroom. He has a deep appreciation for the human intellect and works effectively to awaken that spirit in our students. He communicates with students in a way that demonstrates his faith in their innate abilities.
